New in the City: The Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago
Residents of our Chicago condominums have yet another reason to love living in Lakeshore East - the dazzling new Modern Wing of the Art Institute that opens on May 16th, 2009.
Located just steps away from the Lakeshore East community, this new addition to the already world class art museum was designed by Pritzker prize-winning Italian architect Renzo Piano and features an innovative sun-screen canopy that is reminiscent of a flying carpet. It increases the size of the Art Institute by a third, transforming it into the second largest art museum in the United States.
In the Modern Wing museum goers will be able to view contemporary European paintings and sculpture, along with photography and architectural art. The building will also feature a garden courtyard, an outdoor sculpture terrace, fine dining, and an education center, and visitors will have access to Millennium Park via a 620-foot pedestrian bridge also designed by Renzo Piano.
