For owners of downtown Chicago condos, the best holiday of spring approaches. No, not Casimir Pulaski Day… St. Patrick’s Day! The downtown area is transformed into a sea of green on this holiday, which will be celebrated Saturday the 13th this year. What St. Patty’s Day events should you attend this weekend, and what else is going on in the city before and after the Irish-themed festivities? Find out below.

Of course, there is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a must-see Chicago event if you’ve never gone before. This year, it will start at noon on Saturday and runs through Grant Park on Columbus Drive between Balbo and Monroe Streets.

For a less traditional St. Patrick’s Day celebration, participate in the St. Paddy’s 5k Run/Walk and Leprechaun Leap on Sunday. With proceeds benefiting the Lake View Citizens’ Council, entry is $30 and includes a post-party at Trinity Bar & Grill.

This first weekend in March is, of course, the weekend of the Academy Awards. We have a feeling our readers might be tempted to host a swanky Oscar party in their Chicago condos, but that’s not until Sunday night! So what other events, restaurant openings and exciting nightlife adventures should draw you out of those Chicago condos before the big movie event? Here are our suggestions this weekend.

Just a week or two before Spring Training begins, start getting into the Cubs’ spirit with an event at Rockit Bar & Grill in Wrigleyville! Local sports expert David Kaplan of WGN 720-AM, ChicagoNow.com, and the Chicago Tribune hosts Cubs-Aholics Anonymous, where you can connect with other fans and sports media. It happens every Thursday, and it sounds like a great way to start the weekend early to us!
