Lakeshore East Village Market Conversation

Question:  As a Lakeshore East resident (current or future) what type of retailer would you like to see in the Village Market?  Feel free to elaborate on why and how it would benefit the neighborhood.

As the Community Relations Director for the Lakeshore East community I receive many phone calls and emails regarding our Lakeshore East community. I am often asked about the status of the Village Market.  Residents are curious as to when construction will begin, what type of retailers will occupy the space as well as I’m often given suggestions for what is needed and wanted.

Due to permits the construction of the Village Market has taken longer than initially anticipated.  We are confident that the 12 month project will be moving forward in the spring of 2008.

Confirmed retailer, Treasure Island Grocery Store is one of the most anticipated additions to the Lakeshore East neighborhood.

The Community Corner Blog was created for multiple reasons.  The Community Corner is a means to communicate important, fun and needed information, but also to start conversations with the community.

What I would like to see:
-Cafe (preferrably not a huge chain like Starbucks)
    -Restaurants/bars/lounges/deli
    -Perhaps a 24/7 convenience store
    -Clothing stores

What is probably more important is what people do not wish to see. For example, I hope there are no bank branches or insurance offices filling the limited retail space.

I humbly suggest, with a view to fostering quality:
-bookstore (nearest good one, Borders, is way up Michigan Ave)
-flower shop (just being able to enjoy the scent would add ambience)
-card shop (upscale, not only 99cent products)
-video rental store (with eclectic inventory)
-deep dish pizza place (it is Chicago!)
By the way, ROM is great! More shops like it would be wonderful.

In order to maintain the atmosphere of the area, I would like to see the following:

-I agree with Jack-a bookstore would be a fantastic addition
-Restaurant with Lounge/Bar that attracks more of a happy hour crowd versus a late night crowd
    -Spa/Salan
    -Boutique style clothing stores
-24 hour Pharmacy versus convenience store
    -Mailing Center

I am interested in the following retail at the Village Market Center:

    - Cold Stone Creamery (or similar)
    - Breakfast restaurant (such as the Bongo Room, The Good Egg which is popular in Phoenix area or even Le Peep)
    - Casual diner style restaurant (we really need a casual inexpensive restaurant)
    -UPS Store (or similar)
    -Framing Shop
    -Styling salon
-BBQ restaurant (such as Smoke Daddy, etc.)
    -Fresh bakery
    -Wine specialty shop
    -Thai food restaurant

I would like to see a Market we can get our weekly groceries, not just a 24/7 store. A couple boutiques and median priced restauants, Italian, Asian etc as well as a great breakfast place like the Yolk on S. Mich. Also, a spa would be great as well as a pharmacy. I love the bookstore idea as well.

I’d like a petstore, bookstore, deli, thai/asian eatery, UPS or Fed Ex, bakery, ice cream or frozen yogart, pharmacy, breakfast or bagel shop, vet office, movie rental, mexican resteraunt, bars, clothing shops, car rental, spa or hair/nail salon, …

What I wouldn’t like to see are big chains, fast food like McD’s, or other business offices that wouldn’t be of use/interest to the residents of our neighborhood. If we want a food court, we can all pop over to the Aon Center. I’d prefer it to be a little classier.

I would like to see a Market that we can get our inexpensive fresh fruits sand vegetables daily!
